What are the basic elements of art? How does an artist use these elements to express a creative idea? By focusing on a wide variety of paintings at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Building Blocks of Art: Learning to Look at Paintings introduces participants to the basic elements of art and the key concepts an artist considers during the creative process. This lesson provides participants with a strategy for looking at art that can be used when visiting any museum collection, and is appropriate for an audience of adults and community members or a school group of middle-to high school students. LACMA is a participant in Windows on the World, a project linking California public and school libraries with educational program providers through live interactive videoconferencing. Windows on the World is supported by a grant from the California State Library with additional support from Pacific Bell.
