The Los Angeles County Museum of Art includes an outstanding collection of American Art in its permanent collection. Paintings and sculpture range from colonial-era portraits to modern works from the 1920s and 1930s. American History through Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art focuses on a number of noted American artists such as John Singleton Copley, Winslow Homer and Mary Cassatt. American artists often drew their inspiration from social trends and historic events; by viewing and discussing these artists works, audience members will participate in a visual tour of American history. This program is appropriate for adult and community audiences or groups of middle-to high school students. LACMA is a participant in Windows on the World, a project linking California public and school libraries with educational program providers through live interactive videoconferencing. Windows on the World is supported by a grant from the California State Library with additional support from Pacific Bell.
