American History through Art
at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art includes an outstanding collection of American Art in its permanent collection. Paintings and sculpture range from colonial-era portraits to modern works from the 1920s and 1930s. American History through Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art focuses on a number of noted American artists such as John Singleton Copley, Winslow Homer and Mary Cassatt. American artists often drew their inspiration from social trends and historic events; by viewing and discussing these artists’ works, audience members will participate in a visual tour of American history.

This program is appropriate for adult and community audiences or groups of middle-to high school students.
