Library Participant Guidelines Libraries must have interactive videoconferencing equipment capable of communicating with ISDN-based systems (H.320 standard) at 384 kbs. Libraries with other types of equipment must arrange for signal conversion to H.320. Libraries should prepare participants appropriately to participate in the videoconferences, in consultation with program providers Libraries will agree to promote public events and/or recruit participants Libraries will help providers evaluate success of the programs and share results with the other project participants Libraries will adhere to established standards for successful videoconferencing programming Libraries will augment the videoconferences with an on-site component which highlights the libraries own resources on the featured topic (i.e., reading list, showcased collection, library exhibit, assignment involving library research, etc.) In schools where the videoconferencing equipment is located elsewhere than the school library, there must be a significant linkage to the school or public library established as part of the program (see item above) For public programs, libraries will receive generic materials that they can customize and use to promote the events in their communities. Depending on the particular provider or program, libraries may need to pay their own ISDN usage charges. For multipoint programs, Pacific Bell will provide bridging pro bono. |
